The .50AE is a much smaller cartridge. 300 grain vs 440 in the magnum.

The load some a lot heavier than that. I was looking at this a bit
earlier. I saw 500gr commercially and ballistic reports for 700gr.
That is up in the BMG category.
It looks like you may pay $2 a round for commercial ammo but you can
reload for 30 cents or so depending on what bullets you buy and how
many you get in a box. The real price break at Natchez seems to be 500
for a 320gr and it goes up from there.

700 grain would be slow for sure - maybe even subsonic. 440 seems to be
the most common. I may take up reloading when I retire. I should start
saving brass now...
