differently next time? Did you have both hands on the drill motor?
You just said it. Keep both hands on the drill motor.

I like to use my drill press for that sort of thing, otherwise a beefy
1/2 inch drill motor with a side grip. You can still get hurt if the
the cutting edge locks up and spins the drill motor out of your hands
but at least it's not a nasty cut.
