NBA Rejects Hate, Pulls All-Star Game From North Carolina
July 21, 2016 by Michael Stone 0 Comments

A victory for secular values, and a defeat for anti-gay religious
conservatives.

According to media reports, the NBA is pulling the 2017 All-Star Game
out of Charlotte, North Carolina because of the House Bill 2, state’s
discriminatory law that targets LGBT people.

HB2 — known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act
— dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use, and
prohibits local governments from enacting anti-discrimination
protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity, effectively
promoting discrimination and bigotry against the LGBT population.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver had previously threatened to move the
All-Star game out of Charlotte unless the discriminatory North Carolina
law aimed at the state’s LGBT community was changed.

Yahoo reports time to change the discriminatory law has run out because
of the logistics and planning the NBA needs to run its marquee
mid-season event.

In total, the cancellation is expected to cost the state an estimated
$100 million, according to an estimate published by the Charlotte Observer.
