One of my brothers, a liberal atheist, called himself a 'secular progressive'. He didn't like the
term 'liberal atheist'. I guess the 'humanist' part means they like to buy votes with welfare
programs.

In simple terms:

Secular means "non-religious" or "not religious". It doesn't necessarily
mean "atheist," since there are plenty of folks who believe in a creator
but not in religion.

Progressive in this context typically means someone who wants society to
progress so that it is more inclusive.

Humanism, from Wiki: Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that
emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and
collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence
(rationalism, empiricism) over acceptance of dogma or superstition.

In other words, the opposite of today's right-wing dirtbags...like, for
example, you and Herring.
