He is a man of his word when it comes to a gentleman's wager .
I was
out of town for a few days and returned to find his postal
money order
for our election bet.
I wasn't convinced that it would happen so I sent John the money I
"owed" him in advance. It will go to a great cause that might
bring a
tear to Harry's eye. I'll leave it to John if he wants to fill
in the
blanks.
You didn't 'owe' me anything. It was a gracious gift to go
towards a gift I plan to give an old Army
veteran (a few years older than me, anyway). He served two tours
in Vietnam, lost his job when his
company folded, and is now living with his son and getting only
Social Security.
He loves shooting, especially my Kimber .45. We go at least
every two weeks. He had left his guns,
including a Colt M1911, with a son in Washington whose house was
broken into. The guns were stolen
along with all the other valuable stuff.
He needs a gun. I'd been looking at some .45's with him in mind
and have settled on the Ruger
SR1911, which will run about $675.
When I mentioned this to Alex, he immediately offered to help
buy the gift, using the proceeds from
his bet with Harry. Harry probably would have donated the money
anyway...maybe...out of the goodness
of his heart.
Harry, thanks for coming through on your bet.
Alex, thank you too! I've not ordered the gun yet. Waiting to
see if the Trump election will cause
prices to drop a bit. Lots of dealers really stocked up
expecting Hillary to win.
Harry's money will be well spent!
Yesterday a golf buddy who has a huge garden came over to pick up
some leaves (about 30 bags -
mulched) for his garden. We got the pickup loaded and came in for
some coffee. He is a true blue
liberal, said he stayed in bed for three days after the election.
We had a bit of discussion about
the Washington Post and CNN and the advantages of using Google
News as a home page.
Anyway, we started talking guns. He's wanting a small 9mm which he
can operate. He's 84 now and
pulling the slide back on his .45 is getting hard. He's got one of
the old Colt Commanders. During
the discussion, I mentioned my buddy Carmen, and told him about my
plan. I also told him the whole
story of Harry's 'generosity' which gave him a kick.
Last evening, after thinking about it on the ride back out to his
house (about an hour's ride), he
gives me a call. Says he wants to add some money to the til for
the SR1911.
So, by the grace of two liberals, I'm ever closer to getting that
gun for Carmen!
Thanks again!
How ironic. The liberals are stashing guns and ammo while their
leaders are trying their best to gun grab from honest
citizens.
I wonder how many liberals own stock in gun companies and do their
anti-second amendment **** just
to drive up demand.
The gun stocks are way down since Trump won. I bet ammo will get
cheaper too in the short term.
One of my Page County, Virginia buddies out there by the Shenandoah, a
guy who is completely non-political, says he is planning to buy a .308
rifle to scare off the "assholes who put Trump yard signs on his
property along the state highway without permission." I don't think
he'll shoot any of them, but I'm guess their pick-me-up truck tires
might be targeted if he catches them.
Hope he gets the rifle, whatever he gets, because I'll be able to
"borrow it" on my trips out there...though he said ammo was not cheap.
"but I'm guess"??? Where was dumb Don on this one?
