Finding info on my boat
I know what you mean about the look and feel, never liked the new one.
I build web sites for a living and we have *finally* abandoned designing for
4.7. It interprets webpages in a very ... umm, "unique" way shall we say.
There is a lot of extra work making a page look and/or work well in 4.7. I'm
not sorry to see it go, I've invented new swear words trying to get things
to work in it.
This is what you're noticing on the web now, it's being abandoned by the
designers so as time goes by it will slowly stop working on anything but the
more basic stuff.
I can vouch for the Mozilla browser that someone recommended if you still
want to stay away from IE. The best parts are the tabbed browsing and
built-in pop-up blocker.
If you do go to IE then get the Google toolbar installed, it also blocks
pop-ups and has other useful stuff built in.

Just out of curiousity, which version of Netscape do you find no longer
working?

4.7
Yes, I know there are more recent versions, but never liked their look
and feel as well as 4.7
