Sometimes a ghost is a reflection that you and nav describe, sometimes
it is an object that is so low or has such a lousy return that it only
shows up when you and the target or on the crest of waves or when the
target is ata angle to reflect your signal. So it may indeed be a real
target but when it keeps disappearing and returning from the scope it
is called a ghost.

Prime example of "One man's ghost" is another man's intermittent target.
I wouldn't call any of you wrong, once I understood what your
description was, though your above does not fall into MY description of
"ghost" even though I can see where it might from your perspective.

Otn,
Your post was so polite, that Joe might be under the false impression that
you agree with him.

I trust that my clarification will prevent lurkers from comimg to the false
conclusion that you don't know what you are talking
about.

G As Stated, I wouldn't call Joe's "ghost" a "ghost", but I've become
a firm believer in "One man's fwd spring, is another man's after
spring", as I've heard many knowledgeable people use different
definitions to describe this phenomena.
For my money, the greatest cause of "ghost" is "operator error", i.e. to
much gain/intensity for the given range scale setting, though I would
also include odd ball targets where none exist due to any number of
possible causes .... keep in mind, I'm an operator not a technician,
though Gawd help the Techie that tries to tell me that some conditions
are normal for radar in general or a specific radar, when I know better.
As for people coming to false conclusions about the substance of what I
might say in a thread, hey, I'm good, but I'm not perfect ....show me
the errors.
