Affordable, too!
An ad in "The Old Outboard Book" reads:
Stop Working! Start Fishing! Anyone can handle a boat like an expert with
Twin-Fins (c). No noise....no splash......moves your boat in any direction
with
an easy one hand motion. For more fishing fun, find out about Twin Fins!
See your dealer or write Twin-Fins; PO Box 27; Philadelphia, Miss.
(Sports Afield- May, 1959)
The editor's description:
This manually powered unit was kind of a double hydro fin. Operated by a
hand
lever that worked up and down (in about a 30-degree arc) the Twin Fins
flapped
outward like frogs' legs. This action caused "no noise or splash".
Probably
more of a threat to Kermit the Frog's ego than to any design engineer in
the
outboard industry. Twin-Fins were a novel idea few looked into.
The patent has probably expired. Seems like the perfect solution for the
"no
wake Manateee zones." :-)
The Hobie Outback kayak has a power system run by peddles that is very
similar. But the fins point straight down.
