I'm looking into buying a 30 to 42 foot cabin cruiser (express type);
I would like one with an aft cabin under the helm. My two questions
are…..

A) What is going to be the most reliable power set up?
B) Which is going to be the easiest to service power set up?

You will have a lot more power options at 42 feet than at 30.

30 feet? you will almost always have outdrives. Almost always gasoline.

42 feet? expect inboards. Maybe high HP diesel.

There are a lot of opinions, but I think inboards are a lot less maintenance
than ourdrives. Somebody who had the option and chose outdrives will surely
have a plausible and reasonable explanation for doing so. Some of it is
preference.

I just wrote a review on a Cruisers Yachts
32 footer with V-drive inboards. You won't find that configuration listed in
the brochure, yet, as this was the first boat of that type built.......but
Cruisers is going to offer it as an option next year and they will build you
one now if you ask.
