I have a 2001 Bayliner Classic Capri 1950 which has a 135 Horsepower Merc.
I am fairly new to boating and have done some bottom fishing and will do
Salmon. I have been launching from Solo Point. Do you by any chance know of
any good crabbing spots south of the Narrows? I will be out crabbing when
the season opens. I have been told by my friend that I will need a trolling
motor because he doesn't think I will be able to go slow enough with the
main engine, do you know if this is true or not. I am aware that I should
have a kicker engine but do not want to spend the money right now. I did
get towing insurance just in case I get stranded somehow.

Just curious what size of boat and motor are you using? Im in the Tacoma
area and know the narrows pretty good. Some good fishing is around the
the bridge but need to watch the strong currents. What are you fishing
for salmon or bottom fish ?

thanks

When fishing in an area/spot do you let your engine idle or do you turn
it off until you are ready to move to another location. I fish on Puget
Sound usually south of the Narrows Bridge. I am relatively new to
boating and was just looking for information.

Should not be a problem with your boat. Salmon, at lest in the San
Francisco area, we troll 2-2.8 mph. A 135 hp Capri should have no problem
going that slow.
