Default Newbe question about potentialy living aboard a sailboat for years..

Hi Tibor,

We're currently in the process of making the move to living aboard and
leaving the land behind. Checkout www.livingaboard.com for lots of
good info in their forums... we've found it to be quite helpful and
there's a great community of folks there to help you.

Cheers!

Hello,

Can anyone advise me on the cost savings if one owns and lives onboard a
nice sailboat and travels around the world for several years compared to
like renting or owning a house on land? This is what I am thinking about
doing, I have not purchased the boat yet but I am very partial to catamarans
like the Leopard 470, they are big bucks to start out with... also since
the weather is increasingly a major factor in living on or around the
oceans, what advice can experienced sailors give me with respect to the risk
of loosing it all to storms or hurricanes... does one have time to avoid
hurricanes, (I guess yes) but no time to avoid tropical storms that pop up
out of nowhere but are not as dangerous as full blown hurricanes, probably
smart to avoid hurricane prone ocean waters during hurricane season, like
visit those areas of the world in NON hurricane seasons exclusively...

Also how much does a person spend on food and fuel a month when living
aboard after purchasing and not including monthly payments or insurance?
