Default What a trip!

A last minute decision, I drove to Jupiter, FL leaving Oct 19th and arrived
the next evening (Thursday), just in time for hurricane preparations for
Wilma. I also was supposed to meet with a couple of movers and the guy
doing the house inspection for our prospective buyers.

Instead, I wired up a new 15kw generator to the house panel (just in case)
and boarded up many of the doors and windows. Wilma hit dead on starting
Monday morning as a Cat 3 and by 11:30 am the eye was right over us. Power
was out, so I fired up the generator and awaited the "back side" of the
storm. The back side was much stronger than the front and a couple of times
I thought all the doors and windows were going to blow in. Fortunately none
did, although we lost a few concrete roof shingles, the pool enclouser and
a few trees.

Power was out in our area for a week. The 15kw generator is great, but it
uses huge amounts of gas so I ran it sparingly as gas was scarce and there
were 2-3 hour lines. I had brought a little Honda 2000 generator (super
units!) and ran it 24/7 for the refrig, TV and a couple of lights. It only
used about 3 gals or less a day. (24 hours).

Anyway, I finally finished cleaning up the hurricane mess, had the house
inspection, met with the movers and packed up the truck and Mrs. E's horse
trailer with stuff that we wanted right away and headed back for MA on
Friday morning (Nov 4th) . I got as far as Savannah, GA and my brandy-new
2005 Ford 350 Powerstroke Diesel died on route 95. Got both the truck and
horse trailer towed to a diesel truck repair facility (via Ford roadside
assistance) and they say it has a bad high pressure oil pump and it will be
at least Wednesday before I'll be ready to roll again.

So, here I sit in a hotel room in GA, playing on a laptop and waiting.

Shoulda taken the boat.
