Just watched your Indian River flick. Way cool. Great music. A little
jumpy
because my server, Cox, didn't get all the files. But, I'm sure that's the
server's problem as it's been losing about a third of the files on almost
any binary post.
You need a stabilizer for that camera, or at least calmer water. But, the
great thing is that you did it.
Now, tell us what's required. I assume you need a special card for input,
a
dvd burner, and some software. Please tell.
Good work. I got about 40 seconds of play out of it.

That was just an experiment to see if would work. I still don't think I am
doing it correctly, and that segment of the trip was not really all that
interesting, except the water was a lot rougher than it appears in the clip.
To answer your questions:
First I converted the original VHS tapes to DVDs. I gave up trying to do
that on the computer and used a Sony DVD burner/VHS unit.
Then I put the DVD in the computer and opened a software package called
"Sonic muvee producer". It is pretty straightforward, but this is where I
need to learn and experiment some more. You can do different styles, music,
etc. For some reason I have not been able to get it to record the sound
track from the original recording though.
It asks for a video capture device like a DV camera or other digital video
signal. This is where I think I faked it out. I opened the DVD drive file
selections and somehow it recognized the file types - .vob or something like
that. I couldn't tell what chapter it was which is why I ended up with the
not so interesting Indian River segment.
After making a bunch of option selections, you hit a button to create your
clip. It takes a while. The first one I made was 8 minutes long and ended
up as a 20mb file. Way too long. After I created the clip I stored it to
the computer HD as a .mpg file. That takes forever also.
I may try another one. I was hoping to make some short clips of some of the
sections of the ICW that were particularly interesting. Need to mess with
it some more.
Blame the bad photography on my brother, Bob. He was chief cook, bottle
washer and ship's photographer on this voyage. I just drove the boat.
