It sucks and I still say it's because the ARRL has
been losing membership - they needed to lower the
standards to protect all those ridiculous pensions
for the chosen few and the only way was to attract
people to the hobby by killing the code.

That's only a *symptom* of the "self-preservation" mode - caused by the
death of the hobby due to "progress".

I also hold an Extra...... but I hosestly didn't care when I read this. Ham
Radio will in time go the way of the Shakers.......it's just evolution.
