Make it pretty. Dad wants to "go home" one last time before he dies so
we are taking a driving trip up the coast to your neighborhood this
summer. Thinking about bringing a small trailer boat with us for some
fresh water fishing, any idea where I can get regulations and info on
what kind of licence I may need, will my US, Connecticut licene do, or
can I drive it at all up there? Anyway, I have never been up there,
can't wait.

What part of Nova Scotis is your dad from?
I don't see a date on this...but should be close re fishing
license..http://sportfishing.mynovascotia.net...asp#freshwater

Just talked to dad and he says the family is from Digby area, going
back to the early 1600's. Mom and dad used to spend many summers up
there doing geneology, scouring the graveyards and afternoons at a
little place "on the main drag" right on the water eating scallops
that would "melt in your mouth". I am actually pretty excited about
the trip. Dad is 90 and we get on pretty well. He was very excited
when I told him I was talking to someone up there. I don't know much
about the place, never been there but I am sure we will have a great
time. Do you need a licence to pilot a small trailer sailor up there?

Small world. My maternal grandmother was from the Digby area. United
Empire Loyalists who were run out of New York in the 1760s by that
revolutionary rabble. She was a Van Buskirk.
In 2005 a reunion was held and a book called 'Return to your Roots' was
published. My grandmother's family in Bloomfield is hi-lighted on pages 16
and 17.

My youngest sister moved down to Smith's Cove when her husband got out of
the navy and bought the 'Digby County Ambulance service in the 80's & early
90s.
She now has another partner in Bear River, but just sold that house and
build a new one on a small lake half a dozen miles away.

As for an operator card... http://www.tc.gc.ca/BoatingSafety/menu.htm
I was

I do have my operator card I wrote the exam at the same time as my 'Boating
Course' test with the power & Sail Squadron.
My 19 foot mini-cruiser sailboat with it's 6 hp outboard doesn't have to be
registered.- Hide quoted text -

Dad says the old family name was Amerault. She married an Englishman,
Hanabal, and they moved to Boston, Gloucester, and eventually back to
Maine. We are spread all along the coast. He talked of finding an
Amerault Hill Rd. once in their travels, but could not remember what
town. They would vacation in Peggys Cove when they were not searching
old records or milling around old grave sites. I think that's acutally
where he wants to visit along with Digby. We got a lot of info over
the winter including a DVD of Halifax. Looks real nice. They never
taught us anything about the war or the Titanic graves in school,
seems a shame.
