Default Raymarine Gyro

Greetings!
Has anyone in this NG experience with the Raymarine Gyroplus Yaw Sensor,
used with the older model 100 course computer? Is it worth while, i.e. is
there a significant performance improvement?

I've got this setup; the rate gyro input is done using an analog input
to the course computer. According to the manual, and observed behaviour,
it uses this input only when you set "response" to "3".

So you do *NOT* get the same level of course-keeping as by replacing the
100 with a S1G. When you set response to 3 the course-keeping is
absolutely wonderful, but you do get a very active steering behavior
that uses a lot of amp-hours.

I bought the gyro to get fast heading for the radar unit, so the better
course keeping is just an added bonus for me. Still, if I had known
about this I would probably have bought the S1G instead (as it does give
you a backup computer for emergencies, as Geoff suggests).
