Ah yes - the prognostication of the varioius groundhogs around the
world.

Connecticut has it's own version of Punxsutawney Phil, Chuckles the
Groundhog.

Chuckle's prognostications follow the same format as Punxsutawney Phil
- sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If
he does not see his shadow, there will be an early Spring.

And Connecticut, the Steady State, land of Nutmeg, The Charter Oak,
liberal yet oddly conservative, will always have an early Spring.

Chuckles is blind. :)

There was a groundhog in Missouri once. I shot it when I was a kid. Had to
hit it in the ass 'cause it was running from me. Took a few shots from that
..22, and I was probably using 'shorts'. It took a lot of pop bottles to buy
a box of 'long rifle' shells.

Anyway, my dad saw this as an opportunity to enjoy another meal off mother
nature, and he decided to roast the groundhog. So he put some seasonings on
it, put it in the oven, and we sat back for a few hours waiting for this
epicurean delight to cook.

'Twas the toughest piece of meat I'd ever put in my mouth. None of us could
chew it. It went into the trash. We had sandwiches.

I could have taken it to the other side of the tracks and sold it for a
half dollar. That would have been the wise thing to do.
