Personally I think the draft is a good thing. Stopping it sure didn't
stop stupid wars but it did give us a generation of stupid kids who
would have been better served if they spent a few years in the
military.

The draft gave the entire society a stake in the military, and in
avoiding military adventurism. Rich mens sons served in Viet Nam.
