Someone wrote, here, I believe:

The anchorage at the head of Mattituck Inlet between Orient Point
and
Port Jefferson, is another natural wonder. Lots of places to
explore
by dinghy, and the town has a dinghy dock at the anchorage. They
even
have FREE hot showers! A very short walk gets you to the very
quaint
"Love Lane", which is a nice place to stroll around. Getting in
safely requires some specific knowledge, but it's still very
access
able for boats that draw 6 feet. I could write out some guidance
if
Skip is interested.

I'm interested. Forecasts for the moment are that we could leave
Three Mile Cove early in the morning, and make that easily on a
daysail, both for volume and direction of wind.

Looking at the detail on the chart, the channel looks to be very
clearly defined, but I'm a bit concerned about depths, and another
correspondent who sez it's all moorings now, with no place to anchor.

What's the skinny (oops - not about draft) on both of those? Can we
make it in with 6-6, and is there anchoring? We'd very much like to
visit it, based on the description...

Hanna at the forecast 5PM is a no-show, so far. Not even much rain...
