Default Cruising the Bahamas

Steven Pavlidas has EXCELLENT guides to Abaco and Exuma with very
accurate charts and sketches. I also like the explorer charts and the
cruising guide is a good general guide but not specific enough for a
long cruise.

If you are going in winter and plan to work your way south, PB isn't bad
but a 24' boat is not great to make the crossing from Hope town past
hole-in-the wall to Nassau... .a nasty bit of water in the summer and
downright ugly in the winter.

I would suggest going south instead and skipping abaco. Leave from FLL
or Miami and go to Bimini. Then off to Berrys, Eleuthera, Exuma, etc.

$300 to enter... Gas is $4/gal, Diesel is almost $2. Travel only
between 10AM and 3PM if the water has to be read. Water is 50 cents a
gallon in the outislands, $10/day at mose nassau marinas.

Leave the Rum and conch, it is cheap... bring everything else including
vast amounts of cash.

Stay away from the large islands except to fuel and provision (Nassau is
very cheap in comparison)

Have fun!!

Bring a lot of money and be prepared to get ripped off.

Looks like Jim forgot:
Common sense.
Laid back attitude.
Enough beer.

People like Jim are why I find myself becoming more and more in favor of the
cruising fee increase.
