English is the native language of only 82% of Americans. There are many
places that are, in fact, bilingual. French is common in both Louisiana
and Maine. New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas, were all, at one time, part
of Mexico, as a result Spanish is common. And, let's not forget about
Hawaii. Many of it's population speak Hawaiian.

Nope, this country has never had an "official language", and with good
reason.

ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or
heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And
yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or
no faith at all; with no fear of persecution . The phrase IN GOD WE
TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable
with it, TOUGH!

IN GOD WE TRUST didn't become the official motto until 1957. Until that
time, E pluribus unum was the de facto motto.
