They were envisioned as short distance troop transports, on the black
sea and the caspian sea. They were never intended to traverse open
ocean.

Yes, i saw that, and it also said it could carry missles i take it for
close shore attack, but still. a jet fighter could take it out.

man that's still a hunk of boat though.


But the thinking was it would carry large loads at a really fast speed and
travel below most radar. So they were ashore with troops and equipment
before they could normally be expected to arrive and attack.
