All knives should be banned. Regardless of their usefulness to society
when used legally knives should be banned.

11000 killed by guns last year. not that many by knives

Making up numbers as we go along? There were 9,369.
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cr...-with-firearms

Total number of murders? There were 16,204.

Most murders? South Africa. They have gun control - competency laws.

Second most gun murders? Columbia. Attempts to eliminate guns?
Apparently, an abject failure, but then, you can only eliminate the
legal ones....

Third most murders? Thailand... Gun control? Yep. Working? Nope.

People with common sense and a sense of history realize why
prohibition failed.... this is no different.....

You paint it as all or nothing. It's not. There's something called
common sense, to which you claim to be a subscriber.

How about trying to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally insane
for starters? Does that encroach on your freedom to bear arms?

I'm perfectly OK with keeping ANY sort of weapon out of the hands of
the insane, even pencils and door keys.

So, the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968 prohibits the possession of
firearms by the mentally ill. How's that law working for you?

Maybe we should pass a law that REALLY prohibits the possession of
firearms by the mentally ill. Or one that REALLY, REALLY prohibits the
possession of firearms by the mentally ill.

Oh, I know.... we could use the South African competency laws as a
model.... oh, heck.... but their rate of gun murders is about 4 times
what it is here!

Oh bother, there's that pesky reality thing, again.... we could ignore
all or some of it, I guess.....

Have you seen the number of impoverished communities lacking income or food?

Have I SEEN the number of impoverished communities? When did YOU just
get back from your extended tour of South Africa?

The World Bank ranks South Africa as "Upper Middle Income." Since you
are home from the fact finding tour, now it is time to set the World
Bank straight on their inaccurate assessments.

Actually, I think I just learned that they no longer need to asses
actual monetary conditions, they can count gun murders and thus rank
the countries with respect to economic well being.... that really will
be easier than all of those spread sheets.....

Oh, and you think the killing is happening in the "upper middle
income" areas of the country?

Delude on my friend.
