I don't think you limited your question to 'favorite Bahama islands'. Having been on many of the
Bahama Islands, I can say that Castaway Cay has *very little* resemblance to any of the other
islands in the Bahamas.
Yes to both of those, although Castaway Cay certainly is in the
Bahamas and I'd be willing to bet that Disney bills it that way.
Having spent three weeks thereon, I can also say that Great Egg Island is probably the most
miserable friggin' island in the Bahamas.
Heh. That is just about the end of the world although nearby Royal
Island, Spanish Wells and Eluthera are nice enough. How did you
happen to draw the short straw on that assignment? We've been near
there a few times but have never stopped. Is it actually inhabited?
No, it wasn't inhabited when we were there. We built two 126' steel towers on the island and used a
geodimeter to measure the distance to similar towers on Hole-in-the-Wall, Abaco and other places. I
was working for the US Coast and Geodetic Survey out of Cape Canaveral at the time. It later melded
in to NOAA. We'd live on the island during the week, but come back to the Auxilliary Air Force Base
on Eleuthera for the weekend.
