I don't like driving long distances. We visit Florida a few times a year
for various reasons, and most of the time we either fly or take the
train. The drive isn't bad if we break it up and spend the night in a
motel somewhere, but driving straight through is not something we enjoy.
I've had trips to Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana, and there
are plenty of beautiful places, but I've never felt the need to drive
there to get to them when I can fly there and rent a car. To each his own.
We always fly and rent a car somewhere along the route we want to take
on the driving part. Sometimes it is a loop, other times we fly back
from a different place.
The airlines have complicated flying so much these days, it isn't that
easy to "fly back from a different place." We flew to Ft. Lauderdale
last year to see friends and also wanted to see friends up between
Daytona and Orlando, and arranging a "round trip" returning from Orlando
was a colossal pain in the ass, cash outlay wise.
