Some of the biggest advantages to first class come before you get to
the plane. We pack pretty heavy and it is nice not having to worry
about heavy bag fees, too many bag fees etc.
I take a big duffel bag and a cooler, my wife takes 2 bags. Coming
home we might have 1 or 2 more "something"
I don't need a cooler. I bring a full size residential style
refrigerator with me when I travel and we have an 8 ft long full sized
closet. To each his own. ;-)
If I was going on vacation within a day's drive, I would but when I am
going out west I do not want to be driving for 4 or 5 days each way.
It takes a long day's drive, just to get out of Florida. I am 650
miles from the Alabama state line. Going straight north to Georgia is
well over 300.
It's not the destination, it's the journey, is the way I look at it.
Using your example, I might stop at Sarasota, Tampa/Clearwater, look up
Frogwatch, Destin, Pensacola, gulf beaches, on my way to the Alabama
state line. Or if you were heading to Georgia you might want to visit
some theme parks and St Augustine along the way.
But to each his own. Right?
