Paper charts are for Wannabees
Are you repeating yourself to make sure I get this? No you are the victim because you have to comply with those regulations even when they are not beneficial to you. I can study the ColRegs and apply them and use them the same way you do. Except I don't have to have any friggin' paper charts onboard. We could always put training wheels on your Coronado yachts and sell them as Trimarans. We could actually make a nice scam out of this you know. At the appropriate moment I could let a paper chart fly into the face of the skipper on the yielding vessel. He'd be so blinded by this that he would not take the appropriate action and you could sue the **** out of him. Simple Simon wrote: It's the opposite of what you might thing. Rather than being a victim of the USCG tests and regulations I'm a beneficiary of a superior knowledge and understanding of how the COLREGS apply and how to become a safer, saner and more responsible sailor. The things I know that, all by themselves, will keep me from being 'at fault' in any possible close quarters situation or collision will allow me to sue the **** out of any motorboater who is unfortunate enough to hit me. In this manner I can parlay a small investment in time and study into a brand new, million-dollar yacht. Better yet, I might decide to start a new world class yacht company named "Coronado Yachts" and build my own perfect sailboat. You wouldn't be interested, though, because the perfect yacht has only ONE hull. S.Simon "Per Elmsäter" wrote in message ... No no. I am bragging about being a real sailor and not somebody tied up by regulations and ´certifications. I can make the correct decision based upon what is happening. You have to make the correct decision based upon whether you want to keep your license or not. And yes I am not a professional seafarer althoough I am a real sailor. You just don't have the guts to stand up and say. BURN THOSE PAPER CHARTS. Comer to think of it you are starting to sound like you are a victim of the USCG. How did you ever manage to put yourself in such a spot? Please don't tell me you had *fun* in the makings of that. If you did I will never again read your lessons for novices. Simple Simon wrote: That's fine. Knock yourself out! But, I don't have that option. It's much easier for you because you've nothing in the way of certification or skills so you've nothing to lose. In a way you're bragging about being an amateur. Like I said, knock yourself out. S.Simon "Per Elmsäter" wrote in message ... Who the hell is a USCG licensed Captain or Master? I'm not and I refuse to spend any more money on updating my papercharts, when I can spend it on far more superior electronic charts. -- Perre You have to be smarter than a robot to reply. "Simple Simon" wrote in message ... You can't be so dumb to not know of the USCG requirement for all their licensed Captains and Masters to have a PAPER chart of the area aboard their vessels. Electronic simply won't do. S.Simon "Per Elmsäter" wrote in message news Capt. Mooron wrote: "Per Elmsäter" wrote in message ... If I had 12 bucks for every GPS or laptop that malfunctioned at sea.... why I'd be poorer than you, even though I wouldn't waste the occasional twelve bucks that came my way on Rum and painkillers. Don't knock it... it's liquid courage to fortify you while you watch yet another paper chart flying like a psycho kite downwind with all your plots and data. It's also good for post lightening trauma while you warm your hands on the fried circuit boards of your high tech navigational array. Not enough. Wanna do a joint venture. I'm broke ... frickin cost of charts are killin' me! CM Don't worry Moroon. If this thread does it's job, everybody on a.s.a will let their paper charts fly with the winds and you can collect a bundle of 12 dollar bills. You can also empty the spirits in your compass down your throat. That'll save you maybe half a bottle of Overproof. -- Perre You have to be smarter than a robot to reply. -- Perre You have to be smarter than a robot to reply. -- Perre You have to be smarter than a robot to reply. |

Nice Per, but I've noticed, not a single strike from the wily Bobfish! You
have to remember, the Bobfish is a bottom feeder, you have to come up with a particularly rancid bait if you hope to land one of these trophies. John Cairns "Per Elmsäter" wrote in message ... Hey, if you buy rum instead of charts, you may not know where you are,
but you won't care either. That's a lot better than the alternative for someone like Bob, who could spend money on charts and still not know where he was.
