Default Paper charts are for Wannabees

Are you repeating yourself to make sure I get this?
No you are the victim because you have to comply with those regulations
even when they are not beneficial to you. I can study the ColRegs and apply
them and use them the same way you do. Except I don't have to have any
friggin' paper charts onboard.

We could always put training wheels on your Coronado yachts and sell them as
Trimarans. We could actually make a nice scam out of this you know. At the
appropriate moment I could let a paper chart fly into the face of the
skipper on the yielding vessel. He'd be so blinded by this that he would not
take the appropriate action and you could sue the **** out of him.

Simple Simon wrote:
It's the opposite of what you might thing. Rather than
being a victim of the USCG tests and regulations I'm
a beneficiary of a superior knowledge and understanding
of how the COLREGS apply and how to become a safer,
saner and more responsible sailor. The things I know that,
all by themselves, will keep me from being 'at fault' in any
possible close quarters situation or collision will allow me
to sue the **** out of any motorboater who is unfortunate
enough to hit me. In this manner I can parlay a small
investment in time and study into a brand new, million-dollar
yacht. Better yet, I might decide to start a new world class
yacht company named "Coronado Yachts" and build my
own perfect sailboat. You wouldn't be interested, though,
because the perfect yacht has only ONE hull.

No no. I am bragging about being a real sailor and not somebody tied
up by
regulations and ´certifications. I can make the correct decision
based upon
what is happening. You have to make the correct decision based upon
whether
you want to keep your license or not.

And yes I am not a professional seafarer althoough I am a real
sailor. You
just don't have the guts to stand up and say. BURN THOSE PAPER
CHARTS.

Comer to think of it you are starting to sound like you are a victim
of the
USCG. How did you ever manage to put yourself in such a spot? Please
don't
tell me you had *fun* in the makings of that. If you did I will
never again
read your lessons for novices.

Simple Simon wrote:
That's fine. Knock yourself out! But, I don't have that
option. It's much easier for you because you've nothing
in the way of certification or skills so you've nothing to
lose. In a way you're bragging about being an amateur.
Like I said, knock yourself out.

You can't be so dumb to not know of the USCG requirement
for all their licensed Captains and Masters to have a PAPER
chart of the area aboard their vessels. Electronic simply won't
do.

Don't knock it... it's liquid courage to fortify you while you
watch
yet another paper chart flying like a psycho kite downwind with
all

while
you warm your hands on the fried circuit boards of your high

Not enough. Wanna do a joint venture.

I'm broke ... frickin cost of charts are killin' me!

Don't worry Moroon. If this thread does it's job, everybody on
a.s.a
will
let their paper charts fly with the winds and you can collect a
bundle
of 12
dollar bills. You can also empty the spirits in your compass down
your

I will if you persist in such a lubberly fashion...electronic charts? Where's the romance? Where's the glory? What about all those pathetic little pencil marks, lovingly placed every trip with each new find? What if someone blows the friggin satellite up? What f you can't get near enough to a K-Mart to get new ones (let alone steal new ones like one person here)? Perre, you've been brainwashed into the 2st century. Technology isn't everything. I refuse to give up my wonderful rolled up charts (BTW, we buy them on proected paper). I refuse to give up the compass and dividers.

Katy, you have to stop throwing those winch handles around when you get
upset.

What do you sail, an Atlantic freighter?
How do you keep the chart in front of the helmsman on a yacht?

I don't you upsidedowner. I place a screen with an electronic chart in

front
of the helmsman.

Of course you permafrosted porkchop.
But you said you put a paper chart up, never ever had a paper chart in
the cockpit, too easily lost!

I am in total agreement you headhopping kangaroo. I hope the NG doesn't hold
that against me. If you want the helmsman to know where you are going you'll
have to give him an electronic chart. Paper charts in the cockpit are too
easíly lost. On the other hand the Moroon could probably use the 12 bucks
but then again he'd just waste it on Rum.

Nice Per, but I've noticed, not a single strike from the wily Bobfish! You
have to remember, the Bobfish is a bottom feeder, you have to come up with a
particularly rancid bait if you hope to land one of these trophies.

Real sailors use nothing but digital charts. It is folish even to have

paper
charts as backup. What if they get washed overboard for instance, or eaten

charts.

Hey, if you buy rum instead of charts, you may not know where you are,
but you won't care either. That's a lot better than the alternative
for someone like Bob, who could spend money on charts and still not
know where he was.

The trick is to stay away from sailing related subjects if you wanna catch a
Booblefish.
