When are returning to the Oz1 'handle'. The 'nemisis' thing is about worn

it was weird. So I unplugged the mike to see what that would do. static
seemed to go away when I touched the prongs on the unit. Where's Bart? "Donal" wrote Isn't your mike cord insulated? If so, I wouldn't think that touching it could affect the ground plane. Regards Donal -- |

Of course. You prefer soldering?
The Captains Nemesis wrote: It is better. That BS about wires breaking because of a hard spot where the solder is, is just that BS! You'll have many more and far more difficult to trace problems with crimps then you ever will with solder. Depends on if the crimps are done right. One problem with solder is that the heat of the solder makes the wire brittle, then they are more subject to damage from vibration over the years. Dunno about 'hard spots' but it's true that old wires break at the solder taper. One old timey boat electrician told me that the trick is to use just a small amount of solder so it doesn't wick up into the wire strands. One thing I do know for a fact.... eithe solder or crimp is better than twist-N-tape wiring! DSK |

What about wire nuts with silicone in them? Made
for wet locations and underground. Seems that they should hold up in the marine environment. -- ---- Steve S/V Pony Express "DSK" wrote in message ... : : One thing I do know for a fact.... eithe solder or crimp is better than : twist-N-tape wiring! : : DSK : |

While listening to Uncle NOAA the other night, my radio started cutting out, intermittently. Reaching for the radio, as I touched the mike cord the radio worked fine. When I let go, static. then the next morning, it seemed to work just fine. Someone suggested a bad ant. gound (?). What do you think? Scotty |

I used to prefer both ..... crimp, then solder.
