I made an offer on a sad and rather homely looking Tanzer 26!
A Tanzer 26 is a pretty good boat. Pretty fast underbody...but not a very attractive boat to my eye. I made an offer of 6K and was rejected. A year later he sold her for 4.5K. RB |

A dock neighbor with a 33' Bendy one day told me ,as I was leaving, there
wasn't enough wind to go out (it did pick up a little later on), next week, same guy told me it was too windy to sail, again , as I was leaving. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Scotty "DSK" wrote in message ... Scott Vernon wrote: I would have felt it was a reflection more on the owners ability, rather than the boats. We sailed our Hunter in 35 knot winds at least a dozen times. Apparently some are better than others... either the boats or the sailors, take yer pick. BTW, I've sailed into docks many times and talked to 'sailors' who were waiting for the wind to 'calm down a bit'. We sailed in to the public park at Ocracoke on a windy day, there were a few 35 foot crab crushers there waiting for better weather. One of the ladies on another big boat said in pitying tones to my wife, "You poor thing! Did he tell you it was going to *fun*?!?" She replied, "It was!" Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

and now you own a Hunter, right?

I've sailed on a hunter in over 20 kts. It was something in the 40+ foot
range. I can't really recall. It lumbered like a tub. I hated it. No waves, but 3-4 foot chop. "JAXAshby" wrote in message ... he, who had owned the boat for some time, felt doing so under those conditions was unsafe. I accepted his judgement. What does that have to do with the boat? there are C&C owners who won't sail more than 5 miles from their slip, that doesn't mean the boat is bad. Scotty "JAXAshby" wrote in message ... I looked at a early 80's Hunter 27 I looked at one once a long time ago, but dropped the idea when I learned the owner wouldn't sail the boat in 20 knots. |

I almost joined a partial ownership on a C&C 40 (early 80s as I recall).
It had a bunch of problems that I knew about (mostly electrical), had the absolute **** for sails (but still sailed ok), then I found out it had more serious problems... can't recall the details. Too bad to see a nice boat in such bad shape. Would have taken lots and lots of $$ to get it right. "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... And then.... he bought a real piece of crap. (I'm talking
about the hunter.) "Horvath" wrote in message ... On 01 Mar 2004 23:23:51 GMT, (Bobsprit) wrote this crap: Okay, everyone come clean....what's the worst boat buying mistake you ALMOST made? Scotty, there were/are other issues with the H-27 of that era, so I got lucky
by finding out early and not wasting my time. To this day, I have not heard an owner or former owner of an H-27 of that era make mention the boat was decent when the winds piped up. Most bitched that the engine was too small to power them back home against the wind. I would have felt it was a reflection more on the owners ability, rather than the boats. What did you buy instead of the H27?
A "Sunfish" of about the era as yours and a tad longer. |

The last two times we were out there, we rented Hunter 290s from Club Nautique. Very roomy boat for it's length, clever design... sails well in moderate conditions... but not a good choice for reaching back & forth in the Slot! The lee of Angel Island looked & felt really good after that. OTOH the C&C 40 (if in good shape) would be a great boat for that area. But owning one in shares kinda sucks IMHO. What did you buy instead of the H27?
The H25 and C27 seemed to be the most popular boats back in the '90s. There was a ****load of them for sale. Scotty "JAXAshby" wrote in message ...
