Very roomy boat for it's length, clever design
far and away the most common reason given by Hunter owners as to why they like their boat. |

I never owned a Sunfish.
"JAXAshby" wrote in message ... What did you buy instead of the H27? A "Sunfish" of about the era as yours and a tad longer. |

Remember the weather between the Annapolis boat show and the Schooner Race?
Some guy was telling me how strong, well built and blue water capable his boat was, BUT , that he was waiting for a ''weather window'' since the show to sail back north. SV "JAXAshby" wrote in message ... Scotty, there were/are other issues with the H-27 of that era, so I got lucky by finding out early and not wasting my time. To this day, I have not heard an owner or former owner of an H-27 of that era make mention the boat was decent when the winds piped up. Most bitched that the engine was too small to power them back home against the wind. I would have felt it was a reflection more on the owners ability, rather than the boats. BTW, I've sailed into docks many times and talked to 'sailors' who were waiting for the wind to 'calm down a bit'. Scotty "JAXAshby" wrote in message ... he, who had owned the boat for some time, felt doing so under those conditions was unsafe. I accepted his judgement. What does that have to do with the boat? there are C&C owners who won't sail more than 5 miles from their slip, that doesn't mean the boat is bad. Scotty "JAXAshby" wrote in message ... I looked at a early 80's Hunter 27 I looked at one once a long time ago, but dropped the idea when I learned the owner wouldn't sail the boat in 20 knots. |

I almost bought a Pearson 28 from some idiot on City Island NY.
It wasn't the boat, it was the idiot. Van "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Okay, everyone come clean....what's the worst boat buying mistake you ALMOST made? For me, before I had a clue about good old boats.... I made an offer on a sad and rather homely looking Tanzer 26! I nearly made an offer on an infamous Seidelman 25! I looked at a early 80's Hunter 27! Holy weatherhelm! I considered a tired Hunter 33! Zikes! I nearly bought a Catalina 25 with bad decks and rusted keelbolts! C'mon! I'm sure some of you have considered worse! No offense intended to owners of the above. If it works for you, great. RB |

I sold my Hobie and my 16'er for the same that I paid. The Mac I sold for
22% more than I paid. I've already had offers for more than I paid for the Seidelmann, but I don't want to sell her. She is NOT a stepping stone. Scotty wrote in message ... My first sailboat I ended up burning in the back yard. It was ABS plastic(?)
and cracked all over after 8 years of abuse. Paid $400 for it. Feel better now, billy? SV wrote in message ... This was a larger one, and it was pretty much the same story. We
mostly stayed below the Bay Bridge. The C&C sailed wonderfully, even with all that was wrong with it. It was really abused by the charter company customers and the charter company didn't do much to fix it up. "DSK" wrote in message ... Jonathan Ganz wrote: I've sailed on a hunter in over 20 kts. It was something in the 40+ foot range. I can't really recall. It lumbered like a tub. I hated it. No waves, but 3-4 foot chop. The last two times we were out there, we rented Hunter 290s from Club Nautique. Very roomy boat for it's length, clever design... sails well in moderate conditions... but not a good choice for reaching back & forth in the Slot! The lee of Angel Island looked & felt really good after that. OTOH the C&C 40 (if in good shape) would be a great boat for that area. But owning one in shares kinda sucks IMHO.
