Boats and learning about them are not stepping stones to some
end. They are an end and a beginning in and of themselves. He and many of us are bothered by this because it's pretty clear by saying something like that you have no concept of the art of sailing. "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... I don't think of my boats as 'stepping stones'. That means that you never looked upon your previous boats as learning tools to an eventual end. While sailing the Mac, you NEVER thought you'd learn from her and move up to a more comfortable yacht. You may not like the term, "Stepping Stone" but it's what most of our boats are. I love Alien, but I have dreams and plans to own a larger boat in warmer waters. The moment I think that thought, Alien becomes a "stepping stone." I wonder why the term is upsetting to you. RB |

Neither do. You're ranting. Perhaps that's the explanation.

Boats and learning about them are not stepping stones to some
end. They are an end and a beginning in and of themselves. Like many philsophical statements, the one above has no real meaning. Almost everyone who sails has progressed beyond the abilities of their first, second and even third boats. They were stepping stones. Allow me to help you with the term: Websters: Stepping Stone: 2 : a means of progress or advancement Hmmmm. Like many people, you're offended by the capitalistic element introduced to a passion that you feel is well above such things. It isn't. It takes money to sail, a boat, usually a car. It's not exactly Yoga, now is it? RB |

the population of nyc has remained about the same since 1960. yuppies and
immigrants move into "the city" and the boroughs to replace all those leaving. Averages out. Uh jax, don't you live in NYC? You have no room to talk.
