Your "WORST" Almost Boat....?
Okay, everyone come clean....what's the worst boat buying mistake you ALMOST
made? For me, before I had a clue about good old boats.... I made an offer on a sad and rather homely looking Tanzer 26! I nearly made an offer on an infamous Seidelman 25! I looked at a early 80's Hunter 27! Holy weatherhelm! I considered a tired Hunter 33! Zikes! I nearly bought a Catalina 25 with bad decks and rusted keelbolts! C'mon! I'm sure some of you have considered worse! No offense intended to owners of the above. If it works for you, great. RB |

I looked at one once a long time ago, but dropped the idea when I learned the owner wouldn't sail the boat in 20 knots. |

I've always done a lot of research and shopping before making offers on my
boats and have enjoyed every one very much. Scotty "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Okay, everyone come clean....what's the worst boat buying mistake you ALMOST made? What does that have to do with the boat? there are C&C owners who won't
sail more than 5 miles from their slip, that doesn't mean the boat is bad. Scotty "JAXAshby" wrote in message ... I looked at a early 80's Hunter 27 I looked at one once a long time ago, but dropped the idea when I learned the owner wouldn't sail the boat in 20 knots. |

he, who had owned the boat for some time, felt doing so under those conditions
was unsafe. I accepted his judgement. What does that have to do with the boat? there are C&C owners who won't sail more than 5 miles from their slip, that doesn't mean the boat is bad. I would have felt it was a reflection more on the owners ability, rather
than the boats. BTW, I've sailed into docks many times and talked to 'sailors' who were waiting for the wind to 'calm down a bit'. Apparently some are better than others... either the boats or the sailors, take yer pick. BTW, I've sailed into docks many times and talked to 'sailors' who were waiting for the wind to 'calm down a bit'. We sailed in to the public park at Ocracoke on a windy day, there were a few 35 foot crab crushers there waiting for better weather. One of the ladies on another big boat said in pitying tones to my wife, "You poor thing! Did he tell you it was going to *fun*?!?" She replied, "It was!" Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I would have felt it was a reflection more on the owners ability, rather
than the boats. Scotty, the early 80's Hunters were notorious for heavy, heavy weatherhelm problems. I was also warned off by a LOT of people, including former owners. The most common complaint for the 27 and 30 was that heavy air of any degree overpowered the boat easily. That said, I found that the early Cherebuni Hunters have held up as well as the Pearsons and certainly better than many Catalinas. RB |
