The trawler was re-floated due to the fact a tropical wave hitshore
just east of here and brought a surge. Enough to float him off and get him back here. His engine will need re-building due to water coming up the exhaust and onto the clyinders he thinks. All he has is a flapper valve external on his exhaust and I dont know how high above the water line his exhast is piped. Luckly at 01:30 it was dead calm here in the marina and we were able to walk his boat back into its slip by hand. Do you think he learned anything? Joe |

Shucks, from the way you were talking I'd have thought he would have had to rent a back-hoe to drive out there at low tide and dig him a new channel. How high was this surge? If he hasn't let the water sit there, it might not be that bad a problem. ... Luckly at 01:30 it was dead calm here in the marina and we were able to walk his boat back into its slip by hand. "Joe" wrote Do you think he learned anything? shoulda installed an anti-siphon valve in the exhaust? Scotty Well I just came out of his engine room, Has water in the blower so we pull the injectors looking for water on the clyinder heads and to relieve any pressure. The engine is still froze up and would not wrench around so we pulled the inspection plates and you can clearly see the back 3 pistons gulped water. Most likely bent a rod and seized a piston, not a bad fix if the crank is not bent. He had a faulty flapper valve on the stern exhaust and only a 1 foot rise in the wet exhaust. So he needs to replace a few pistons and liners and connecting rods bearings ect.... if he did not bend the crank more than .0001 it should be an easy fix. It's a detroit after all. He also need to build a better, taller rise on his exhaust and get rid of that lubbery flapper valve on the stern. Joe |
