1. Kerry was a stinkpotter. Bush uses real sailboats.
2. Other than Carter's luxury tax which drove a lot of small businesses out of business the only other serious effort to 'tax' sailboats was from Rep. "Red" Ron Dellums (D) of Oakland (where else) CA who felt they should be taxed on the square footage of sails as they were not buying and therefore paying fuel tax. He thought that was not right and demanded sailboaters pay their 'fair share' even though the fuel tax was passed, supposedly, as a way of limiting fuel consumption. Luckily it didn't go anywhere. There you have it the only two times politicians have assaulted sailboat owners and not a Libertarian (or Republican) in the bunch. Just the ne'er do well left wing wacko fringe extremist socialist whine-a-be's. I say. .. let them eat boogie boards! M. |
