You sure are touchy, loco!!! In the earlier thread I endorsed the Fortress and
your use of it: "Actually, he was probably required to carry an anchor for racing, and the Fortress FX11 is the lightest that could be considered "suitable" for a 30 footer. Its OK as a minimal lunch hook, and Loco has admitted to no further ambition. Sounds like a good match." I thought I was endorsing your decision, but you took offense to my calling it a minimal anchor, and went on to say that's all you need to "cruise" the Chesapeake, and ridiculed anyone that carries more anchor. I still think an FX11 is appropriate for you, but all of the lurking newbies out there (both of them) should understand that the charts in the West Marine catalog rate the minimal anchor to hold the average boat in 30 knots. This may be OK for the daysailor, but virtually every guide for cruisers advises going up one size or more. Further, anyone who "cruises" for more the a few hours, should have two anchors; most people that go out for extended trips carry three or more anchors. "SAIL LOCO" wrote in message ... I assume you're talking about me because I was a bit critical of your use for an FX11 as a primary anchor on a 30 foot boat. However, your comprehension seems faulty, since I said: I don't remember who it was. But if it was you or someone else that wanted or wants to think he's a big man for knocking me for carring a FX-11 then YOUR COMPREHENSION IS FAULTY since I only stated no less than 5 times I ain't out in nasty weather looking to anchor in a storm. I carry the Fortress because it's light and I race. It's designed to hold my mid displacement boat in most conditions. About the only time I anchor during most summers is when we have race committee duty or for an occasional lunch. When we are out on an overnight we stay at a nice marina and eat at nice restaurants. So you see I don't need a selection of "better" ground tackle. Please try to get this. S/V Express 30 "Ringmaster" "Trains are a winter sport" |
Loco is a special case as his wife considers HIM an anchor.
And I bet she'd like to go up a size or two! RB |

Not true. She says I'm a speed bump. S/V Express 30 "Ringmaster" "Trains are a winter sport" |
A Catalina 27 beats a J29 boat for boat? That's quite a fleet you have
there! I know you can't be talking PHRF based gay racing! We have a top C27 racer in out fleet. He races all over the bay in C27 1 design starts and is always a top 3 finisher. Finished in the top 3 at this summer's NOODS. He'd beat your ass while doing 360s around your boat. S/V Express 30 "Ringmaster" "Trains are a winter sport" |
