I thought hurricanes in the northern hemisphere were anti-cyclonic unlike
tornados which are cyclonic... OzOne wrote in message ... On 7 Mar 2005 06:05:49 -0800, "Joe" scribbled thusly: Katy, Hurricane season is enjoyable if you own the proper boat and know how to weather any storm. Its not like you have to worry about getting flooded. It may be a bad time for lubbers but a nice warm place to live is worth the risk. Ive been thru 5-6 hurricanes and only had one item trashed, a 22' camper on jacks rolled across the lawn. My fault.I was offshore and did not have it properly secured. You know the news people look for the worst to show you Yankee's on TV. Joe Joe, unfortunately it seems you are one of those in extreme danger from a cyclone. You've been lulled into a false sense of security by cyclones that have been little more than a tropical storm at your location. Get back to reality and tell me just how you'd cope with a direct hit from a Cat 5, like the one off Northerm Oz at the moment. 280kph winds are nver "enjoyable" and with the seas that go with such winds, "getting flooded" is the least of your worries! Oz1...of the 3 twins. I welcome you to crackerbox palace,We've been expecting you. |

A category five is no big deal. I rode out Andrew which was a category five and
I suffered no damage other than a torn bimini top. It was six years old and ready to go, anyway. The only thing to worry about in a category 5 is the core which is usually less than fifty miles in diameter. It's easy enough to avoid with the modern tracking methods and radar and satellite imagery. CN OzOne wrote in message ... May at MYC.... "Maxprop" wrote in message nk.net... "Capt. Mooron" wrote in message "Scott Vernon" wrote in message I got excited yesterday, sent in my launch request. Asked for 2nd week in April. Brave or looking forward to very little improvements.... Nah. We're going in either the first or second Saturday in April. Cold, yeah, but that's when the season begins, dammit. Max |

I've lived in hurricane country for almost twenty years now. I've seen them come and I've seen them go. I have no fear of them. They are hyped up all out of proportion to the danger they might cause to a well-found vessel anchored or moored out in a safe "hurricane hole'. Every real sailor has a hurricane hole and a plan to use it along with all the necessary gear aboard. The winds and waves aren't the danger - the real danger is the idiots ashore and their docks full of unsecured boats and their roofs blowing off, etc. And, that's the truth! CN |

Friends don't let friends use Cetol...
katysails wrote: We've told him that and told him that but he keeps on Sikkensing....of course, he's always done way before we are with our varnishing... (and he's got a lot more wood...) Hmm, you may be either sanding too much or putting it on too thin, or just plain using the cheap stuff. In your climate, you should be able to keep 6+ coats on with almost no work at all. I'll have my wife consult with you, she's the varnish expert now... Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I *requested* the 2nd week, they usually fall behind by a week or more
due to weather, low water, etc.. I better call Haggy and tell her to paint my bottom by then. Scotty "katysails" wrote in message ... Ice is only in protected portions of the bay... I live along the ocean.. It's between -10c and +5c here right now... rain is forecast for tomorrow. CM |

I've never seen a snow cover tear up varnish the way intense UV from the southern sun will do. ... and Mr Sails is a varnish fanatic...its' done as a matt4er of course rather than a matter of need... My wife has gone from racing tactician to teak nazi. Nowadays when we walk around looking at boats, she is as likely to criticize the brightwork as make a comment about the rig or design. And one thing we agree on (actually we agree on many things) is that we have never seen a Cetol finish that looked as good as even a half-assed varnish finish much less a good one. You can read a newspaper in the reflection off our brightwork, which is not half-assed IMHO. If Maxprop's boat has decent wood on it, she deserves better. Fresh Brushes- Doug King |
