I use clip ons... polarized. Work great!
-- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "katysails" wrote in message ... I have to order new sunglasses this year. My old prescription glasses are too dark and filter out way too much light. I've been experimenting with some clip-ons over my glasses and tried purple and amber, but they still seem to filter out too much. I'm looking for some color that will work on both land and sea and filter glare more than light....Recommendations? -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 "Women and cats will do as they please..." Response is slowed due to the compensation afforded by the automatic tint.
It's not a permanent situation. It takes a month or six to get the reflex back. Sailing sunglasses... polarized.. any tint... mirror finish to reflect back the extra light from the waves. The reason fo gray is that it won't screw up how you see colors, like purple and amber lenses will. The polarization cuts glare, which is your biggest problem. You can specify a lighter shade as well. I have bi-focal polarized lenses and I got them a shade that is dark enough to prevent eye fatigue, yet light enough that I can easily read a chart without taking them off. rusty redcloud |

In glass (not recommended) these are called Photogray or Photobrown Extras. In hard resin, they are known as Transitions. They may get darker than you prefer. Serenghetti makes a number of excellent lenses for sailors. My favorite is their vermillion polarizer. Not too dark and a great polarizer. Check it out. Oh, and by the way, it may be glass, so don't count on them to be safety-type lenses. Max |
