Bob, one of the reasons why the 35s5 can do well in PHRF fleets is
her WL advantage. Specifically, the 35s5 LWL is 29.4. But when heeled at 13 degrees or higher it extends to a whopping 31.2. Believe me, this is a boat that can kill it's rating, but...On the downside, you really need to tweak the 35s5 for her to sail anywhere near her potential. A lot of 35s5's are slugs because their owner's have no idea about tuning a rig. Newer First series boats are more forgiving. But my 35s5 has run boat-for-boat with the supposedly faster 36.7's on numerous occasions. That should give you an indication of how fast she can be. I think you should race your boat. You'll have fun and really learn her strengths. Good luck with her. Happy Holidays, Tim |
