Default St George Island Lighthouse collapse

I just learned that sometime last year the lighthouse on St George
Island Florida that had been leaning and then had been stabilized has
collapsed into the surf.

I think I ate lunch on the Island the day it happened. Sometime back
in October I believe. I didn't knock it over!

I was on the island that day. Spent the week in Mexico Beach and my
wife and I drove over to eat lunch with her aunt who has a house on
the bay side of the island.

I don't think they ever got it stabilized. I think they were trying
to collect enough donated money to do that when it collapsed.
too bad.

Well at least the Biloxi light house is still standing and withstood
both Camille and Katrina. No longer an aid to navigation, but
certainly a beacon of hope.

The prism glass, and burner are in Galveston. I wish they would restore
her, but Bolivar has access problems for tourist to bother visiting.

Oh, me father was the keeper of the Eddystone Light,
And he slept with a mermaid one fine night.
And from this union there came three,
A porpoise and a porgy -- and the other was me.
