I dooon't thiiikkkk so. Indy cars used to run ethanol and nitromethane many years ago, but it was banned by USAC because the flames in a rogue fire were almost impossible to see in direct sunlight. Some drivers and pit crew got badly burned by "invisible flames." Max |

Max,
I was one of them. Crewing on a 135 hydro-plane. Fire on start up, getting driver out. "Miss Miami Bell" http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

Ethanol; working now
"Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... Max, Didn't the Midgets run Alky Fuel also? Nearly every race car of any type ran alcohol with nitromethane. For what reason I don't know, but apparently the teams thought it was a better fuel than gasoline. Karts, for example, still run methanol and nitromethane. Max |

Max,
I know the Dragsters have "Fuel Classes" and I know they're faster than Gas. The Karts surprise me, Most are 2-cycle?? We used Nitrobenzene in the Hydro.. http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

There are some 4-stroke classes, but those are generally for novices or those with less-competitive instincts. Model airplane engines, the majority of which were two-strokes until recently, burn a mixture of alcohol, nitromethane, and lubricating oil. We used Nitrobenzene in the Hydro.. And I though nitromethane was toxic. That stuff is patently lethal. I hope you didn't drink any of it? :-) Max |
