INDY CARS aren't going to start changing to Ethanol for the next Indy

Indy cars used to run ethanol and nitromethane many years ago, but it was
banned by USAC because the flames in a rogue fire were almost impossible to
see in direct sunlight. Some drivers and pit crew got badly burned by
"invisible flames."

Max,

I was one of them. Crewing on a 135 hydro-plane. Fire on start up,
getting driver out. "Miss Miami Bell"

Nearly every race car of any type ran alcohol with nitromethane. For what
reason I don't know, but apparently the teams thought it was a better fuel
than gasoline. Karts, for example, still run methanol and nitromethane.

Max,

I know the Dragsters have "Fuel Classes" and I know they're faster than
Gas. The Karts surprise me, Most are 2-cycle??

We used Nitrobenzene in the Hydro..

Most, yes. There are some 4-stroke classes, but those are generally for
novices or those with less-competitive instincts. Model airplane engines,
the majority of which were two-strokes until recently, burn a mixture of
alcohol, nitromethane, and lubricating oil.

And I though nitromethane was toxic. That stuff is patently lethal. I hope
you didn't drink any of it? :-)
