Save our Ship
the distress signal (...---...) came first, after the
original distress signal (CQD[?]) was deemed to be too confusing. It just so happens that the signal represented SOS. It was later that someone coined the Save Our Ship phrase. This was on the History Channel a while ago. Scotty "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... Is that were SOS came from? or was it save our souls? Joe |

Save our Ship

Correct Scotty.... they were selected to indicate a distress because, in Morse code, these letters and their combination create an unmistakable sound pattern. It just so happens that the signal represented SOS. It was later that someone coined the Save Our Ship phrase. This was on the History Channel a while ago. Scotty "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... Save our Ship
Hmmm... my understanding was the the Titanic did not send up any distress
signal, although there were claims that they did. They fired rockets, but not red ones I believe. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "DSK" wrote in message ...
