It's almost impossible to turn on the radio, surf the net, open a
newspaper or watch TV without hearing about John Kerry's "joke." But
it's just as impossible to hear what John Kerry actually said, in
context. All you can find is the part that Karl Rove wants you to
hear.

All right, Karl Rove !!! Keep up the good work.

Isn't it interesting how so many prominent Democrats demanded Kerry's
apology.

No. The Democratic party is made up of people who think for themselves.
They are
not a mindless herd like the Republicans.

Personally I don't see why he apologized, if he meant what he said.

He didn't apologoze for what he said. He apologized to anyone who was
stupid
enough to misstake what he said as an affront to the troops. In other
words,
"I'm sorry you are an idiot".

Interesting spin. I guess Hillary and Harry Reid are idiots, as far as
Kerry was concerned.

So if I write: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, if
you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be
smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck as a
Democrat," it shouldn't offend dems at all because I was insulting the
fact they ask you to register under a party in order to vote. -- And
according to the statement above, if a dem is offended, he could be an
idiot!

Based on the above, you are an idiot.

Wait... I thought Kerry already admited to it. Sigh... Anyway check out
the below web link.

"During a Vietnam-era run for Congress three decades ago, John Kerry
said he opposed a volunteer Army because it would be dominated by the
underprivileged, be less accountable and be more prone to "the
perpetuation of war crimes."

I'm not saying anything about Kerry thinking a drafted military is the
way to go but it looks like he *might* have an issue with the type of
people in a volunteer military.

Fair enough. But if you're going to allow Dak to remove extraneous
state-of-being verbs, maybe one ought to allow Kerry to ex-post facto
insert the missing pronoun? i.e. "...you wind up getting US stuck in Iraq."

The Dems are trying that one. I see that today they published his text as he
intended to say it.

Or allow the substitution of "Dak" for "Walt" in your post, which is
obviously what you meant.

Which is to say that we all mis-speak from time to time; the fact that a
simple misstatement brings down the full fury of the wing-nut-o-sphere
indicates something about them, and it ain't charitable.

This little kurfuffle acts quite well as a screen to see if someone is
reasonable and thoughtful, or whether they just knee-jerk react to the
noise machine. Congratulations for passing, Dave. Respect is earned.

Thank you, and well spoke.

Lets all end it here and go back to talking about sailin. Fer gods
sake, I'll even discuss "Ellen MaCarthurs" fake pics over this.

I have every confidence, Jon, that you'd come up with a creative way to
blame the President, the Vice President or the Secretary of Defense.

Yes, and if you put the two letter word "us" back into Kerry's speech
as it was
originally written, all the hand wringing Republicans look like the
blindered
idiots they are.

CWM

Um yeah... what Charles said.

It was fun today guys - being in the presence of such intellect. Who
knows if I think it over tonight I might decide to change parties and
then I can come back tomorrow and start calling people idiots, making
derogatory remarks and wanting Kerry in as president in 2008... I mean
as opposed to wanting him to run in 2008 that is...

Is that the best you can come up with? I made a point, and it was
obviously
correct to any honest person. That may exclude you.

Referring to Dak (whomever that may be) as an idiot is what I was referring
to. You lash out with ad hominem attacks whenever someone disagrees with
your argument. You've done so from the inception of your time in this NG,
so nothing is particularly surprising about it. As a debating technique,
however, it lacks credibility, but is a commonplace technique used by the
left when their opponents fail to see things 'their way,' so I've noticed.

Your assessment of Kerry's comment is spot on, actually. He was attacking
Bush, not the troops. But he stupidly opened mouth and inserted foot, as he
is wont to do, by not thinking about how such a comment would be removed
from context and misinterpreted by the spinmeisters on the other side. I do
believe he maintains continuing antipathy toward things military, but that
had nothing to do with this comment.

Not sure I'd go so far as to call them "dumb," but they do lack sound
debating ability when faced with divergence from their opinions. In other
words, they are like spoiled children.
