CWM,
This one we can blame on the English Metric beats the stupid english system hands down but it's what we were taught.Get pretty hard to say all the school teacher were stupid BUT----- Many, many of our Lab & engineering department have converted to metric but in this country they still need to use both systems. Give it time; as the saying goes it take christ and all his helper to change anything in are School systems. New math is a perfect example! We're living in a Digital World but we're just a 1/2 step above a slate and caulk in are teaching. Button Up----- winter starts today in a couple of minutes |

![]() "Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... CWM, This one we can blame on the English No you can't! Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the scale and he was a Dutchman, born in Poland. He was about the earliest to be able to measure temperature accurately and set 0 degrees on his scale as being the lowest temperature he could possibly achieve in his laboratory in those days. Since it was a long time before anything better came along his scale became well established despite its peculiarities. |

Edgar,
Thank you! The 32 is the Temperature of Melting Ice The 212 boiling water, Thermometer calibration points. Now the whole world wondering way he didn't scribe melting ice zero & boiling water 100. Old England didn't they made it their Standard. Just think, if that damned Dutchman would have put that Hg in an unmarked glass tube we wouldn't be having this discussion. Just think, if a degree was in a Mult.. of ten, there would be need a 5/9 and a elevated 32 degree scale. http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ILLDRINKTOTHAT |
