There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre
of operations during the last 22 months and a total of 2,112 deaths. That
gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 troops.
The firearm death rate for civilians in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per
100,000 persons, for the same time period, 22 months.
That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in
the Capital of the United States, than you are with our troops in Iraq.
Conclusion: Let's Pull Out of Washington D.C.

Well, Congress certainly has... I believe they're on their annual August
break.

Its nice to see that Vito is taking advantage of one of the many
Rights that our brave men and women in uniform are fighting to
protect. Namely, the Right to be Extremely Stupid.

This is a math problem that any 7th grader should be able to figure
out, but it seems somewhat beyond Vito. If the monthly death rate is
60 per 100,000, that makes an annual rate of 720 per 100,000. The
annual murder rate in DC is about 40 per 100,000, depending on the
year. Thus, the odds of being killed in Iraq are about 18 times higher.

Better yet, leave them there, dig a moat on the N, E and S sides, mine the
moat, blow the bridges, jam their electronics, and create a new capital in
Montana!

When I lived in VA, just south of DC, one of our disaster contingency plans
was to blow the Potomac bridges to prevent VA from becoming another New
Orleans (grin)

OK Vito, why don't you explain to us how it makes sense to compare the
monthly rates in Iraq to the annual rate in DC? And while you're at
it, you could look up the real DC homicide rate, which was 35 per
100,000 for the last year reported by the FBI. We won't even get into
the fact that handguns deaths are only a portion of these numbers.

Its looking like you should have gone to a DC school, it would have
been a big step up for you.

Let me explain it so even you can understand. The author compared a 22-month
(not monthly) period in Iraq to a 22 month period in DC in order to make a
humorous point - that we should pull out of DC. It's a joke, dummy! Who
cares if the numbers are exact in a joke.

OK, I see you forgot your pills again ......

Oh, I get it now. The author thought you were an idiot so he told a
joke that would be only be appreciated by idiots. I guess he was
successful.

And being off by a factor of 20 is a little bit worse than not being
"exact."

Lessee, my IQ is over 160, I have two doctorates, and I thot the idea of
pulling out of DC was funny.

OTOH, you got hung up misunderstanding the numbers and missed the humor.

Yup, I must be an idiot. Bwahahahaha!
