Hmm, this seems suspicuos, not to mention bad form. First of all, they
(you?), demand that one uses IE, a browser reknowned for being a
security breach in itself, next you want people to download a 173kb
file in order to view a PDF!?

WHY the hell would that be needed, and it smells like spyware or worse.

So, "be warned and shun the company of strangers" ;-)

"there is nothing dodgy here ive downloaded it and they work fine whats
your
phobia?"

I just got this in an email directly to me. I'm a bit worried by being
spammed. On the other hand, I have their IP now.

So here it goes (including my response).

If there's nothing dodgy, why do you have to download something in
order to view a simple pdf? Not to mention, use IE, and WIndows. That
in itself is dodgy.

It's not a phobia, and I have to say I don't like the tone of that. If
it is indeed something, it could be called a very well founded
paranoia.

You downloading it, claiming nothing has happened, doesn't really
matter much. Spyware doesn't really tell you that it has installed
itself.

Can I ask, why wasn't this posted to the thread instead of sending this
directly to me?

Let me repeat myself:

Let me add, to this group, and P&H, that it is in itself shows the
dodgyness that you're so defensive when I/we question the validity of
this. I think you should give it a good long thought as to why some
people are paranoid. We are that for a reason, and as far as this PDF
goes, there's no reason that anyone should have to install anything.
That is not paranoia, that is common sense. Even if it where password
protected there would be no need to download anything.

I just made a search for RedSwoosh.

Turns out it is indeed adware, if not spyware (the jury is still out):

http://www.redswoosh.net/support.php

http://www.auditmypc.com/process/rsednclient.asp

Not to mention, that for some strange reason, when trying to download
it, I get the front of a PC games' site.

Yup, nothing to be paranoid about there. It's all "phobia". Gees,
Paul&Heidi, maybe you ought to be a bit more critical as to what you
download. Unless of course, you didn't download it, but are trying to
get this installed on as many PCs as possible. How swell of you.

I have never gotten spam before, and I now am suddenly getting spam?

I didn't download anything, nor am I on a windows-PC, but that is
apparently how this guy operates.

One more spam-mail from him, or because of him, and I'm reporting him
to his ISP

Works only on Windows, requires IE, and some suspicious plug-in to be
installed. All this for seeing a PDF! I don't know what the deal here is,
but it sure is not just giving away boat plans.

I won't touch that site with a ten-foot pole, and I advice everyone else to
stay away as well.
