I have a Penta 280 Stern Drive and I am going to remove the engine. My
book say's to pull upper drive out and then the engine. My wiring is all over the place and now it looks like it is not possible if it is up. Any advise please. |

Look in the book and you'll see the color code of the pigtail and the tilt limit switches. If that is not an option, you could carefully remove the tilt motor, then lower the O/D. Be sure the drive is properly supported before you start removing the tilt motor- then lower the O/D by hand. |

Thanks, I tried to hook a 12v car battery directly to the motor and got
nothing. No sound at all. I am now convinced the motor is bad. Should I try it from the relays? thanks again |

I apologize if I sound 'hard core', but after 'wrenching on Navy jets' for over 20 years, that's the first thing I look for; the maintenance manual. When I worked in Quality Assurance that's the first thing I always asked, "where's the maintenance manual?". I don't care if they looked at it or not, but they better have it open to the correct page. I took that same philosophy with me when I got out and built boats over at Osprey. ![]() A bad motor will typically still hum ...not always though. But I'd look carefully for open connections before assuming the motor's bad. Brian D "T-Rav" wrote in message oups.com... Ugh ...You're bringing back old USAF memories. When we weren't fixing
airplanes, we were supposed to be "proficiency training". That meant "read the manuals". And if the manual wasn't with us when working, and open to the right page (and your finger better be on the right paragraph if the MSgt is watching), then we'd get busted. Of course, we had a big fat loudmouth MSgt running the place ...but I'm sure he had nothing to do with it. Uh huhhh. He was one big fat walking attitude problem... Now? Yup, I always refer to the manual. Saves a lot of headaches. Brian "reader" wrote in message news:0Kx8g.7421$IL2.1811@trnddc04... "T-Rav" wrote in message ups.com... Thanks for the help. Yes, it could be wiring related. Or water could also have gotten down into the screw (of the tilt motor) and seized it up- there are many possibilities. It should come out anyway, so it can be cleaned up and run 'on the bench'. Dependability is important when you're out on the water. |
