Looking at the GMRS rules, it looks like a license is required. No
relation to the Ship's Station. Not clear why GMRS is all that desirable. FRS works well enough and since no license is required, alot of cruisers are usng FRS. Doug s/v Callista "Courtney Thomas" wrote in message ... If licensed for SSB, is an additional license required for GMRS usage ? Are all users of the GMRS radios required to be licensed or are the radios themselves regarded as licensed and the owner held responsible, or what; and, is each radio licensed or is a pair licensed, they being typically sold in pairs ? I hear a license is $80 for 5 yrs. Why is it worth it and to whom, i.e. who is the target user ? Appreciatively, Courtney -- s/v Mutiny Rhodes Bounty II lying Oriental, NC WDB5619 |

Head of the family must be licensed. No test. License costs $75 for 4
years (?) and is a total waste of time. No call letters need be said on the air at any time and 98% of people on GMRS are unlicensed. Just a money-making scheme by the FCC. Doug s/v Callista One other thing to remeber is that GMRS is USA only service and is not covered by any Reciprical Agreement with other countries. One could however add Onboard Communications UHF Radio system to any Maritime Mobile Ship Station License, and as I remeber these are also GMRS/FRS Frequencies as well. This would allow operation anywhere that the USA has Reciprical Agreements for Maritime Mobile operations. Bruce in alaska another little used Matitime Radio application -- add a 2 before @ |
