I am trying to unload some "stuff" for a friend and posted an item on r.b.m
a few days back. I realize it's a moderated group, but there seems to be
little if any life over there. Comments?

It went semicommercial moderated some years ago, and, well, that's
the name of that tune.

I guess I don't know the implications of "semi-commercial." What exactly
does that mean to sellers?

Here is my rejected AD and the explanation for it.
************************************************** ***********
* YOUR MESSAGE HAS BEEN REJECTED AND HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT *
* PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE NOTICE BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE *
************************************************** ***********

Please pay attention to what you are reading! Much frustration
results from posters not simply reading this easy instruction on
how to post ads to this newsgroup. Slow down, take your time, and
READ this message before resending your ad.

Thank you for submitting your message to rec.boats.marketplace
(herein referred to as RBM). RBM is a moderated newsgroup. Its
purpose is to help boaters buy and sell boats and boating-related
products. Its purpose is not for discussing general boating questions.
Please use rec.boats, rec.boats.cruising, rec.boats.building and
alt.sailing for this purpose. You will find more receptive audiences
full of experts there.

All messages that are posted to this newsgroup are screened by an
automatic computer program called moderation bot. This program
ensures that all messages submitted here satisfy minimal posting
standards discussed below. The purpose of this standard is to ensure
that the newsgroup is useful for the readers, in particular that
the Subject: field of every message has a certain minimal amount
of useful information, so that the readers can scroll through the
message subjects instead of downloading every single message.

Ultimately, this standard is to benefit you, because your ad will
attract attention from people in your area who are looking for something
that you have.

There are two types of messages that you can post:

1) Messages to buy or sell products. All such messages should have
Subjects that:
begin with a FS or WTB (abbreviations of For Sale and Wanted
To Buy)
contain some short description of what you want to buy
[IMPORTANT] say " in " and describe location.

SEE EXAMPLES BELOW.

There are no restrictions on what may constitute a location or
product description. HOWEVER, if you want to write an attractive ad, be
concise and specific.

ATTENTION: the automated program verifies that the Subject: line
contains word " in ", surrounded by space characters, to indicate
location. If you indicate location but forget to say " in " the
program will reject your message! If you just say "FS: Used outboard
motor, Central Ohio", YOUR MESSAGE WILL BE REJECTED!!! Now if you
say "FS: Used outboard motor, in Central Ohio", your message will
be approved.

Examples:

Subject: FS: 1987 20ft Bayliner open bow in SW Florida
Subject: WTB: outboard parts in MI
Subject: FS Bayliner Ciera in Nova Scotia, Canada
Subject: FS: 1966 27ft Chris Craft in Rome, Italy, with some rot

Examples of BAD SUBJECT LINES that will be REJECTED:

Subject: FS: Used boat
Reason for rejection: location not specified
Subject: want to buy a 15HP outboard
Reason for rejection: No FS or WTB prefix, no location
Subject: WTB: A used searay cuddy around minwest
Reason for rejection: location not specified properly, " in "
not used

2) Administrative messages. All such messages MUST have a Subject:
line that begins with an ADMIN prefix.

Example:

Subject: ADMIN: I disagree with the moderator's policies

3) Announcement messages. All such messages MUST have a Subject:
line that begins with an ANNOUNCE prefix.

Example: ANNOUNCE: New boating-related website

The last time I looked at it, and this is some time ago, the "moderator"
was sprinkling in his own commercial messages at the bottom of each post
to promote some non-related enterprise. This had to be three or four
years ago, and I stopped looking at the newsgroup.

Why not sell it on eBay? Yes, you pay a small amount for the service, but
IMHO it's worth it. I recently sold a small stack of gear on eBay and even
with the fees I paid I'm happy with the final outcome.

This is the route I have chosen (having realized that rbm is basically
difficult to work with). I am getting into it slowly, but keep a weather
eye for some good items.

I didn't spend a great while trying to find it, but I didn't find a subject
line in the header info.

That's not going to get very far :{))

FS Your Stuff in Your Location will work, I believe. It has for me...

E.g. "FS 1973 Fiberform 26' in Mahone Bay NS"

By the way, I never heard what it was which was so difficult to work with.
As my post showing Dry how easy it was, and in my prior experience, all you
have to do is follow syntax.

Computers don't take individualized input, either :{))
