I used my cellphone to connect to the internet and it was very fast.
It uses a digital wireless connection rather than a modem at the
cell site like one of my older phones did. I was very happy with
the result. Plus the connect time was not taken out of your minutes.
Flat rate of $9.95/mo.

Doubting anyone will set up a WiFi node on Harkers Island anytime soon,
I just use my cell phone as a modem. Slow, but it's always there. See
you at Cape Lookout this summer?

What cell phone, what phone company?

I'm using a Nokia 4585i phone via Alltel, and am envious of others who
have found faster alternatives. But I'm stuck with what I've got, for
now, and the cable connects from the USB port to a special port built
into the phone.

As for Cape Lookout this summer, I'll be spending at least a couple of
weeks out there, and anyone is welcomed to use my computer as well as
borrow electricity from the gen-set. Just bring plenty of beer and ice.
