Looking for a "experienced" Yanmar 1 GM 10 engine with transmission
[not sail-drive]in good condition. Or a Volvo MD-1 or whatever else that has 8 - 12 hp, is diesel, and capable of being hand started. Want a decent engine, not a rebuild "project". Replacing my Atomic 4 which runs perfectly, smooth, etc, but gasoline in a boat makes me really nervous. And I don't need the 30 hp of the Atomic 4. If you must, go for a used 2gm13. However, I'd say keep the Atomic 4.
If you are careful, having the extra power of the 30 hp gives you more safety than the safety of having diesel over gas. Think of how many boats use gas WITHOUT problems. Do you have gas for your dinghy motor? You are likely to invest more in the 1 GM 10 (cost of installation included) than the boat is worth. You MIGHT be able to find a used diesel from a hurricane damaged boat but be careful, many of these were submerged.
